Exponential Black
Acrylic on canvas
This series is a visual depiction of the exponential growth of COVID-19, shown through the doubling of viral particles and the gradual consumption of the canvas in Stuart Semple’s Black 3.0, one of the darkest black pigments commercially available. Each painting follows the logic of mathematics and viral behavior, moving from a single point toward total saturation, where the image becomes almost pure absence. By working only in extreme black and white, I wanted to explore not just the spread of a virus, but also the relationship between light and shadow, visibility and disappearance, and how something invisible can take over an entire world.
